Ingredients:
  • Pie Crust
  • 1/2cup vegetable shortening
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup ice water
  • Pie Filling
  • 3 1/2 cups Pennsylvania Apples, peeled, cored, sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tsp. cinnamon
  • Dash of nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
Directions:
  • Pie Crust
  • 1. Cut shortening into flour, add butter and salt; add water a little at a time working with hands to form dough.
  • 2. Pull in half to make 2 dough balls.
  • 3. Roll dough onto flour covered cloth; place one crust into pie pan.
  • 4. Keep the other dough for the top of the pie.
  • Pie Filling
  • 1. Mix sugar, flour, salt and spice together in a small bowl; toss apples into the bowl.
  • 2. Lay apples into the dough lined pie pan.
  • 3. Melt caramels and pour on top of apples.
  • 4. Top the whole pie with the other pie crust.
  • 5. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
  • 6. Turn back oven to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 45 minutes or until golden brown and apples are soft.
  • 7. Test with cake tester.
